Calls to smoking law compliance line
5 Apr 2006The national compliance line the public can use to report breaches of the new no smoking legislation received 215 calls in the first week of operation.
The 215 total, between March 26 and April 1, includes 112 reports of alleged breaches which will be followed up environmental health officers.
The compliance line - 0845 130 7250 - is an option if a problem cannot be resolved on premises covered by the new law.
The line is manned between 12 noon and 12 midnight, seven days a week, including public holidays.
Calls will be charged at local rate. All complaints to the compliance line will be passed to the local environmental health department and will be followed up.
